What should I pack for a stay in a Montana resort cabin, considering the weather and activities?
Montana weather can be unpredictable, especially in the mountains. We recommend packing layers of clothing, including:
- Waterproof and windproof outerwear: Even in summer, sudden rain showers are possible.
- Warm layers: Fleece jackets, sweaters, and thermal underwear are essential for cooler evenings and mornings.
- Sturdy hiking boots: If you plan on exploring the trails, comfortable and supportive footwear is crucial.
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat: Protect yourself from the strong Montana sun.
- Insect repellent: Especially during the warmer months, mosquitoes and other insects can be prevalent.
- Fishing gear (if applicable): If you plan on fishing, bring your own gear or rent from our on-site shop.
- Binoculars and a camera: Capture the stunning scenery and wildlife.

My 12 year old son and my husband had the chance to spend time here for 4 nights and 5 days. They came back with wonderful stories about the fishing, the food, and their wonderful hosts. Second trip to Forrester's this past June -- once again, it was everything we hoped it would be and more. We enjoyed our first trip so much last year, that we returned this spring with 7 more of our friends (total of 10). Nick and Francine are incredibly generous hosts and in my experience, you won't find a better combination of quality fishing, spectacular views, comfortable accommodations and five-star dining anywhere else. Frank (head chef) turns out meals that rival anything you can find in the top big-city restaurants and the food was one of the many reasons we came back for a second season. Of course, the fishing, quality guides and great location were factors too. Foresters is the spot to get out in the great outdoors and do some darn fly-fishing (and hunting during the proper seasons). Our first visit to Forrester's will definitely not be our last! Cozy, well-appointed cabin, yummy cuisine, and best of all, our fishing experience! We're still newbies at fly-fishing, and our fantastic guide, Matthew Granberg, could not have been more patient, knowledgeable and accommodating (as well as humorous and entertaining!). I was given the opportunity to visit Forrester’s on a last minute trip. Everything was top notch! Spent 4 nights and 3 days fishing. Food was mind blowing. Staff was incredible!
