Bighorn Fishing & Hunting Resort Guide
Matthew Granberg
Matt has been a lifelong fly fisherman, upland bird, waterfowl hunter and outdoor enthusiast. Having been an Orvis endorsed guide for the past seven years, Matt has been working beautiful trout waters with his guests on the rivers and lakes of Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.
Matt’s primary focus is to make sure Forrester’s Bighorn guests have a memorable fly fishing and wingshooting experience. Should you have specific requests for a favorite guide, want to learn a new technique, take a casting lesson or refresher, or perhaps you’d like to pull the trigger on our clay target range prior to going to the field - Matt is here to assist with personalizing your trip.
You can find Matt at his desk in the lobby bright and early every morning with a warm welcome. He will schedule your guide for the day, help you rig your rod, fit you with waders and is always happy to talk hunting and fishing with you. During the day he is often sharing his love for the sport while guiding guests, and as the day winds down he is happy to share a cold one and swap fish stories.
Please feel free to contact him directly at matt@forrestersbighorn.com to have him assist with any questions or needs prior to your trip.

"I plan to take my City Slicker self back to Forrester’s Bighorn River Resort."
Great lodging, a lot of savvy, and a great river for anyone interested in the near-spiritual experience of fly-fishing. Here is a place I only knew from postcards, now I can truly brag that I’ve been there and done that! If Nick and his guides have any patience left, I plan to take my City Slicker self back to Forrester’s Bighorn River Resort.- Phil Donahue -

"5 stars across the board."
The experience at Forrester’s Bighorn River Resort could not have been better. Francine and her staff could not have been more welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The main lodge and cabins were comfortable with beautiful views of the Bighorn River. All of the meals were exceptional and beautifully presented —very gourmet and delicious! Our fishing guide, Chris, was personable and very knowledgeable and fun to be with. We caught beautiful fish. We enjoyed the entire experience and the other guests. 5 stars across the board. Thank you, Francine, Paul and Chris. -
"Fantastic Fishing Lodge"
I can't say enough good things about Forester's Bighorn River Resort. My father has been going there to fish every year for over 20 years and I have been fortunate enough to go with him 4 times. If you are a serious fly fisher you will think you have died and gone to heaven at the resort. Even if you are rank amateur like me you will love it. The guides are so good you can't help but catch fish. Nick, Francie and the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and to cater to individual preferences. The cabins and the lodge are comfortable and well appointed. And the food is worth the trip all by itself. Frank makes better tasting and more beautifully presented meals than I've had in excellent restaurants. Thank you for another outstanding visit!- Connie H. -
"Everything we hoped it would be and more."
Second trip to Forrester's this past June -- once again, it was everything we hoped it would be and more. We enjoyed our first trip so much last year, that we returned this spring with 7 more of our friends (total of 10). Nick and Francine are incredibly generous hosts and in my experience, you won't find a better combination of quality fishing, spectacular views, comfortable accommodations and five-star dining anywhere else. Frank (head chef) turns out meals that rival anything you can find in the top big-city restaurants and the food was one of the many reasons we came back for a second season. Of course, the fishing, quality guides and great location were factors too. Book this place with confidence and enjoy your Montana fly fishing experience, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned angler! We will be back next year for another adventure.- Christopher T. -
"Unforgettable. See you next year."
Upon arrival, we were greeted with the necessary paperwork, licenses, and guides. We dropped our bags off in our cabins and dad gave lessons to his daughter. Afterwards we headed up for a cigar and appetizers. Dinner was a multicourse, locally sourced, culinary delight. Frank, head chef is awesome and Paul is impeccable. My wife stayed in the cabin and enjoyed the peace and serenity while we enjoyed Sean, Wyatt and Tyrell's guidance for trout. The 1st day, all bows over 20 inches. On the last day, Stella, hauled in a 20+ inch bow as the boat was pulling up to leave, in front of a slew of waders, who applauded and cheered. An experience she will never forget. Thank you Sean, Wyatt, and Francine for the wonderful care and love you gave us. Unforgettable. See you next year.- E.S. -

"This place is awesome."
This place is awesome. Picturesque location overlooking the river, very close to town and the dam where you put in for fishing. The cabins are neat, clean, and well appointed. This is where we will stay every time we are in Fort Smith to fish the legendary Big Horn River.- Mark M.
