GETTING TO FORRESTER’S FROM THE BILLINGS AIRPORT

  • From the Billings Airport, take the City Center route at the traffic circle which puts you on 27th St. Take this all the way to I-90 East Exit.
  • Take Interstate 90 East towards Sheridan
  • Stay on I-90 East to Exit 495 (the first exit) at Hardin.
  • Turn right off the exit ramp and follow this until you come to a four way stop.
  • Continue straight onto Hwy 313, which you will follow about 24 miles to St. Xavier.
  • At St. Xavier, YOU MUST TURN LEFT at the Yellowtail Dam sign, staying on Hwy 313
  • Follow Hwy 313 for about another 17 miles.
  • The Bighorn River Resort is on the right side of the road, just before you get to Fort Smith.
  • Look for the log lodge and seven guest log cabins overlooking the Bighorn.

    Recently my wife and I experienced for the second time the wonderful amenities of this first rate lodge on the Bighorn River. The temperature was hot, the fishing good, and the cuisine as usual was over the top. Nike and Francine the owners are gracious, the lodge staff very friendly and accommodating, and the fishing guides very professional. I was able to sight fish, hook and land a very nice 22” rainbow on a very small dry fly. The rating scale only goes to 5. A 10 would be more appropriate. Dale Sponaugle.

  • "This place is awesome."
    This place is awesome. Picturesque location overlooking the river, very close to town and the dam where you put in for fishing. The cabins are neat, clean, and well appointed. This is where we will stay every time we are in Fort Smith to fish the legendary Big Horn River.

    My 12 year old son and my husband had the chance to spend time here for 4 nights and 5 days. They came back with wonderful stories about the fishing, the food, and their wonderful hosts. Great pictures were sent back to us in New York. They hope to return soon. Hopefully, next time, our daughters and I will join them for a full family trip!

    You know those places you keep coming back to, either literally or at least in your mind? This is one of those places. Nick and Francine ensure that your trip is top-notch. Cozy, deluxe cabins, warm lodge, great loft for watching a game and unwinding, and the food - 5-star cuisine by the talented Chef Frank! You just can't eat this well anywhere else! You can bird hunt or boat brown trout - all in the same day! This is a special place on the Bighorn River.

    The experience at Forrester’s Bighorn River Resort could not have been better. Francine and her staff could not have been more welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The main lodge and cabins were comfortable with beautiful views of the Bighorn River. All of the meals were exceptional and beautifully presented —very gourmet and delicious! Our fishing guide, Chris, was personable and very knowledgeable and fun to be with. We caught beautiful fish. We enjoyed the entire experience and the other guests. 5 stars across the board.
